My First Digraphs

Play to Learn Preschool
This is how you can tell that your child is a "teacher's kid".
Me:  Mommy just made a fun new reading game.  Would you like to try it out?
Kid: OK.
Me:  Super.  Let's sit and do it together.
Kid: Wait a minute.  Are you going to take pictures of me to put on the computer?
Me: ... busted!

Before I started Play to Learn and became a preschool teacher, I earned my Master's Degree in Reading Education.  I loved teaching reading, and I especially loved teaching word study.  Every now and then, I miss that more academic part of my career.  So, when an opportunity arises for me to exercise my Reading Teacher muscles I jump on it!

Our preschoolers work on folder games when they arrive at school each morning while everyone is unpacking and getting settled.  The goal is to have the folder game meet the child's individual needs.
Children who are working on color identification sort and identify colors.  Children who are working on letter sounds will sort pictures based on their beginning sounds.  And so on...

Every year, I have one or two overachievers who are ready for a little something more.  I made this set of folder games for them, and for my 1st grader who needs the practice with mom at home on these skills!

The goal for this set of "My First Digraphs" is to identify the first sound of words that begin with S, H, and Sh.

The set also includes sorts for C/H/Ch, T/H/Th (below) and Sh/Ch/Th.

Each folder game includes 5 pages for additional practice.  The worksheets are differentiated so that the teacher can pick the activity that best meets her students' needs.

I made a set of  these folders for my daughter's 1st grade teacher, and they are fairly quick and easy to assemble.

If you are a K/1 teacher or Reading Specialist, I would love to hear your feedback about these activities.  Keep up the good work at the elementary school level.  This teacher mom really appreciates the work you do!
