File Folder Games

Each morning when my Pre-K's arrive, they complete "Morning Work."  These little file folder games help reinforce lots of kindergarten readiness skills-- letter identification, initial sounds, rhyming, counting, number recognition, sorting, etc.

Over the course of the last 8 years I have made and acquired over 100 file folder games!  Even with so many to choose from, we often find that there is a skill that the students need to practice more and we don't have enough choices in our arsenal.  So, I have started to design a few new games.  I am pleasantly surprised at how nice these turned out!

The front of the folder has the skill-- in this case sorting words that begin with M and P.

When the students open it up, the work mat has a place for them to sort their pictures.

On the back, I attach a plastic baggie for the pieces, and a checklist so that we can keep track of the students progress.  I use a - + system and have a little space to make notes if necessary.

This is definitely one of our most effective literacy activities and one of the best uses of 5-10 minutes with Pre-K students.  I uploaded the free file on TpT.  Feel free to download it here and print it off for your preschooler. (And if you're inclined to leave me a rating or feedback about the game, I'd really appreciate it!)

Enjoy playing and learning with your children today.
