Paper Towel Painting

Play to Learn Preschool
I've had this idea to make paper towel drip art pinned from Casa Maria's blog for ages, and until last week we had never tried it.  I don't know what I've been waiting for!  It was so cool and the kids were completely excited and engaged.  And, easy.  Did I mention that it was easy to set up?  That's my kind of art project.
We covered our art table with a shower curtain. (Easy clean up!) The we layered paper towels all over the table.  (Easy set up!)  I provided cups of liquid water colors and our favorite little droppers.
As soon as the kids got to work, they decided it would be best to move the chairs out of the way so that they could walk and reach and cover the whole table in color!
The effect was so cool!  During the process the kiddos noticed some color theory when their paints dripped together and they worked cooperatively to share space and materials.  As the towels became full, I heard them discussing how they would divvy them up to take home -- a great discussion!
Of course, there's always some curious little kiddo who is more interested in mixing the colors than painting.  He sat like this for almost a half an hour using the dropper to mix up the colors until he had 3 cups that were sufficiently brown.  Ha!

Get out a roll of paper towels and enjoy the process with your children!
