Heart Patterns

Play to Learn Preschool
This week at the light table we added ice cube trays and a bowl of plastic hearts.  (I found them at the craft store in the floral aisle.)  That's it -- a simple invitation to play!
It was fascinating to work alongside the students as they explored these pieces.  I took pictures of one little guy as he worked at the light table for about 15 minutes.  At first he piled all of the hearts onto the tray.
Then, he poured them all off.  Over and over again.  The plastic hearts made a nice sound against the top of the light table, I think!
Once they were all dumped and piled a few times, he decided to place one heart in each cube.  I loved that he was counting aloud as he filled them!
At the very end, he had 3 cubes filled: red, white, red.  He stopped for a minute and announced, "Look! I made a pattern."
Then he filled each of the cubes to complete the pattern.

And, that my friends, is another great example of a child playing to learn!

Have a wonderful day with your kiddos.
