The Day it Rained Hearts

Felicia Bond (illustrator of the If You Give a Mouse a Cookie books) wrote one of our very favorite Valentine books.

In the story Cornelia Augusta collects a variety of hearts that rained down right before Valentine's Day.  She makes special valentines to suit each of her friends-- a chain of hearts to make a collar for her dog friend, a heart with holes for her cheese-loving mouse friend, a heart with a fluffy white cotton ball for her bunny friend, and a collage of small hearts that resembled her friend Turtle's shell.  It's a very sweet book.

After reading, we let it rain hearts all over our art table.  We told the students that they could use any materials to make special valentines.  It was so neat to see what they came up with.

How are you celebrating Valentine's day this week?
