Preschoolers "love" to celebrate Valentine's Day and friendship. They get so much enjoyment out of exchanging their little Valentine cards and talking about all the things and people they love. Our bookshelf is full of wonderful picture books to help us celebrate this day.
Here are our:
#1 Sweet Hearts by Jan Carr
In this sweet rhyming book, the little panda makes special hearts and hides them all around the house for her family to find. We have this book on CD in our classroom, and the students love to listen to it!
#2 Slugs in Love by Susan Pearson
Out of all of our Valentine books, this is the one my kindergartner chose to have me read to her class for her birthday. It is a cute story of a shy slug names Mary Lou who writes mysterious love notes (in slime all over the garden) to her love interest, Herbie. The students think this is so funny!
#3 Mouse's First Valentine by Lauren Thompson
Mouse watches his big sister Minka make him a special Valentine using paper, paste, ribbon and lace. We love all the "Mouse's First" books and this one is no exception!
#4 Big Shark's Valentine Surprise by Steve Metzger
Poor Chomp has a really hard time making friends in his new neighborhood on Valentine's Day. None of the other fish seem to appreciate his big, toothy smile and friendly disposition. Would you be friends with a shark?!
#5 Roses are Pink, Your Feed Really Stink by Diane deGroat
This is another series that we enjoy, but the books are more geared for older Pre-K and early elementary students. Gilbert writes Valentines for all of his classmates, but two of them are not very nice. His little prank almost gets him into big trouble.
What are your favorite books to read on Valentine's Day? Enjoy this day with your children.
