Winter Center Activities

Hooray!  After all of the holiday excitement and crazy weather at the beginning of January, it looks like we will (finally) be able to have a full week of school.  My older students have only been in school 1 day since December 18, so I am very much looking forward to getting back into a routine!

We have lots of fun centers ready this week.  Here is a peek at just a few of them:

Mitten Match Concentration - Students try to locate a pair of matching mittens-- one upper case and its corresponding lower case partner.

Snowflake Rhyming - The goal here is to sort the set of pictures into 2 categories:  words that rhyme with "SNOW" and words that rhyme with "FLAKE."

Snowball Size Sort - Each student has a bowl of white pom-poms in 3 different sizes.  (I picked them up at the craft store.) They can use the spoon or their fingers to sort the snowballs on the mat-- large, medium and small.

Winter Grid Game - This is a monthly favorite of ours.  The students are getting so good at it that I make 6 different colors and can remove 2 cards at once.  The goal here is to use logical reasoning skills to scan the pattern across the rows and up and down the columns to figure out which picture is missing.

All of these centers (and more), some great Circle Time lessons and printables (including activities to go along with Jan Brett's The Mitten, winter songs and poems), play dough mats, and a bulletin board are including in my new "Winter Centers and Circle Time" Unit for Preschoolers.

I am very excited about this new unit!  If you use it, I would love to know what you think!
Have fun playing and learning with your children today.
