Rainbow Discovery Bottles

Play to Learn Preschool
Last week we made weighted discovery bottles which are great "heavy work" for our very active kids. They loved them. So this week, we decided to try another idea from Preschool Inspirations.
We made "Magic Two Ingredient" bottles with items from the Dollar Store.
We followed these directions from Preschool Inspirations and it was so, so, super easy!
At first, they were in the science center, but one of our kiddos wanted to play with them by the window. Of course, as soon as he did that, a bunch of kids exclaimed, "Go put them on the light table!"
Aren't they gorgeous? The consistency appears to change when we tip them right side up and sideways.
We rolled them around and shook them up.
 ... and clanked them together.
...and lined them all up in rainbow colors. Can you tell that I've had these amazing kiddos for 3 years? :)
We even tried to build a tower with them.
The bottles are transparent enough that when two are placed together, they make a new color.
Discovery bottles are so visually appealing. They are perfect for kids who need a calming sensory experience.

Have fun playing and learning with your children today!

    2. FYI I couldn't find this size locally, but I did find it on Walmart.com for under a $1 per bottle. Thanks for the great idea!

  2. Love these! Can't wait to use these with mirrors. Did you add different water colours to the clear gel? How much gel to water beads did you use? The consistency looks perfect.

    1. Thanks Sarah! I just added a couple of drops of food coloring to each bottle and shook them up. I really didn't measure the gel and water. A few of the bottles had too much liquid, so I strained them and started over. Go ahead and experiment with it. You can't go wrong!

  3. How many water beads fit into one bottle? Did you have to hydrate your water beads before adding them to the container or was it already hydrated?
