The next stop on our southwest vacation was Williams, Arizona-- home of the Grand Canyon Railway!
Williams is about a 3-hour drive from the Hoover Dam. The town is on historic Route 66, and driving down the main street (without a single traffic light) feels a bit like touring Radiator Springs.
We checked into the hotel and had dinner at the Grand Depot Cafe. The food was homemade and delicious, and they had live entertainment. Fun!
Early the next morning, as our luggage was being loaded onto the train, we attended a "Wild West Show." My kids loved it! They had just the right balance of adult and kid humor, cowboys, guns and horses.
Then we boarded the train! We had tickets to sit in the "dome" at the top of the train. There were windows on all sides, and we had a 360* panoramic view of the landscape. Stunning! We loved the food and drink on board, and the singing cowboy as well! The entire trip felt like taking a step back in time.
At the end of the route, we were attacked by bandits riding along the track on horseback. The kids thought that this was a hoot!
Finally, we arrived at the train depot in the Grand Canyon full of anticipation and excitement about the last leg of our trip!
Have you ever been to the Grand Canyon or is it on your bucket list? Stay tuned for the recap of that part of the trip!
