We were inspired to make these cool rainbow pipe cleaner projects by Still Playing School. Most of the art projects that we do in class are two dimensional, so I was excited to give this one a try.
The center included colorful pipe cleaners, cotton balls, and rectangular pieces of styrofoam. Many of the students made rainbows, as pictured above. Then, I showed them how to make coils by wrapping their pipe cleaners around a pencil. They had to use their fine motor skills to get them to cooperate!
The thing that surprised me about this center was how quickly the students moved from making rainbows to creating really intricate pipe cleaner sculptures.
Before long, the center was a flurry of activity!
One student sculpted "3 Dinosaurs."
Another student wanted to connect all of the styrofoam pieces together to make a train that stretched all the way around the table.
At another center, the students made letters, shapes, and a big rainbow out of colored craft sticks.
I hope you have a colorful week playing and learning with your children!
