Spring Rainbow Sensory Table

It looks like we have a brand-new favorite sensory table filler -- chick peas! We dyed them into 6 rainbow colors, following the fabulous tutorial from my friend Dyan at And Next Comes L. She promised me that we would love them, and we do!
I bought twelve 1-pound bags of peas at the dollar store and dyed 2 pounds of each color. It only took about a minute to dye them, and they were dry right away.
I know that it will only last for a second, but I sure do like lining everything up in the sensory table when I change it out! I also added some plastic Easter eggs in matching colors.
As soon as the students saw it, they dug right in! The chick peas have such a nice weight, and they feel great on our hands.
Some students started filling the eggs with the chick peas and were pleased to discover that they sound a lot like the egg shakers we use in music class.

My favorite part of this new sensory table? It is so easy to clean up. They kids haven't thrown them around like they do the rice or split peas, and when a few fall on the floor it is simple to just toss them back in.

We did find out the hard way that our hands have to be absolutely dry to play with these chick peas. Just a little bit of moisture on our hands will make all of the color come off. Live and learn!

Enjoy playing and learning with your children today!
