Clean Mud

This week we cleaned the Insta-Snow out of our sensory table and decided to make clean mud to fill it up.  We followed this simple recipe from Happy Hooligans, and it turned out great!
It takes only 2 simple ingredients!
The students took turns exploring the ivory soap with their senses.  We touched it, observed it, and smelled it.  Then, we tried doing Happy Hooligan's Ivory Explosion experiment.  Wow, were the kids excited to see that!  (Follow the directions here to do it yourself.)  Seriously, if you've never tried this, you have to do it.  So cool!
When our soap was ready, we began to shred the toilet paper -- a great sensory and fine motor activity in itself!
After everything was mixed together, we squished and rolled and molded the clean mud.
It has such an interesting and touchable consistency!
Since we are learning about polar animals, we added penguins and Arctic animals to the mix.  Such a fun sensory center!  If you're stuck inside, give it a try.  I bet you and your children will be as mesmerized as we were.

Have fun playing and learning with your children today.

I'm including affiliate links to the supplies that we used.
