During our study of dinosaurs, we learned about fossils. We had made a big batch of cinnamon spice play dough earlier in the month, and decided to use it to make our own little fossils.
The students used plastic dinosaurs to make footprints in the dough.
We also used seashells and rocks to make prints. After the fossils had air dried for about a week, I added a layer of Mod Podge. Man, I love using that stuff! It makes everything so nice and shiny. With the layer of shellac, the fossils were more durable and less likely to flake and crumble.
The students were so excited to take home their "real" fossils, and it felt great to be able to repurpose our play dough, rather than to throw it out.
Have fun playing and learning with your children today!
